A tragic retelling of Shakespeare's KING LEAR, A THOUSAND ACRES was a marvellous character piece. Spun from the perspective of the allegedly wicked daughters of the great king, Goneril and Regan have been traded in for Ginny and Rose, farm wives who have lived under the legacy of their father, a skilled farmer and beloved man by the rest of the community. It is WICKED before WICKED existed, a defense from the villain, and their words speak volumes. Dark and compelling, I absolutely loved this film, a wonderful supplement to one of my favourite Shakespearean plays.

Great film, beautiful scenery & excellent actors,,,

Broken families breed & raise broken sons & daughters, breeding deep seated anger, bitterness, resentment & uncompromising rivalry, destroying more families.
