I liked this opera DVD. It is good for all ages. The singing and dialogue is in Swedish language. English Subtitles are available. The stage was set up to look like an old castle. The costumes matched the period of the props. I liked how they set this up. The singing was well done. They followed the script very well. Classic opera telling the fairy tale adventure of a young man who with a friend undergoes a series of trials first to rescue a young woman held captive, then to become indoctrinated in a mystical, virtuous brotherhood.

An excellent film of the opera; the singing and music is top notch. The one odd part, and one I disliked was that it was filmed in a theatre and there were portions of the backstage shown, indeed the whole begins with many shots of the audience watching.

A meta and charming take on the Mozart opera. Being rather light in tone and feel, it seems an odd entry in Ingmar Bergman's oeuvre but his touches are undoubtedly all over the film
