Seeing Keenan Wynn in blackface is the only reason to suffer through this egregious horror. (Wynn was the one in "Dr. Strangelove" who warned Peter Sellers he would have to answer to the Coca-Cola Company.) Star Don Francks, of course, is Canadian and the reason I was watching this in the first place.
This anachronism from the 1960s was a stage production in the 1940s. It is probably better when regarded in that light. The star of that stage production was an actual Irishman from Belfast, not Fred Astaire, struggling with an accent and failing. He, the elderly actor from the Auld Sod, can be seen as the title character in Disney's "Darby O'Gill and the Little People" from 1959. Walt Disney had seen him on Broadway in "Finian" and brought him out of retirement when making an Irish film of his own.

VERY GOOD late 60's film musical with Fred Astair (also in his late 60's).
Continues the Hollywood musical film tradition with all the cinematic technical improvement that had become available.
I did find the way they projected the written credits over the great film in the opening sequence a bit annoying.
Tommy Steele (especially his grin) was terrific as the leprechaun.
I also enjoyed the 'Follow the fellow who follows a dream' bit.

Wanting to revisit a good year for old_toto, this 1968 movie didn't revive much except to witness Fred and Petula deliver a few songs and dances before giving up on the hokey-ness of some past musicals.

this movie is so funny that my entie family couldn't stop laughing! the leprechaun can't seem to make up his mind about which girl he loves and so he's in love with them all! great!
