Some say George Smiley is in innocent retirement. Others say he was sacked after the Czech scandal. But all agree that nobody ever leaves the 'Circus' without some unfinished business. Brought out of retirement to trace an enemy infiltrator in the department where he was once the prize employee, the shy and retiring master of espionage moves forwards to investigate and finds himself going backwards over very old ground ..

I watched this one time back in probably 2014 and guess I liked it or would not be watching it again. This time, I stopped after episode 3. After watching many of the new series out now, the "look" and the acting was just not enough to make me stay. Yes, I know it is considered one of the best and all that. I am disappointed to feel that way.

The action moved far too s l o w l y for me to enjoy. What I found most interesting was how the U.K. was depicted culturally: the 1970's fashion, the stratified society, and resentment over losing its world position to the United States.

Best version of TTSS ever! Alec Guiness takes over the character completely. Superb performance.

Although Alec Guiness' performance was great, the rest of this production was too slow and a bit dull. Also, there was nudity on disc 2, totally uncalled for and offensive.

This is the very best version to date! Alec Guinness is outstanding. All the actors completely suit their roles.

In today's rush to remake and star brand old movies, the Russell Crowe attempt is good, but this is the masterpiece.

See it with no distractions and focus and enjoy.

This is one of those movies where I recommend reading the book first. The dialogue favors realism over exposition, so there's much that's left unsaid.

Alec Guinness is an actor’s actor playing one of the most interesting parts ever conceived in Spy-Fiction or any fiction for that matter. That of an old, retired spy master sacked along with his boss in the midst of a scandal after a mission to uncover a double agent goes wildly wrong. This story is both a mystery as well as a tale of redemption. I have seen many of Alec Guinness movies over the years including comedies, historical dramas, etc and I still marvel at his genius… we simply do not have actors like him any longer.
