This book is the story of the Godolphin Arabian and how it made a journey from Morocco to Paris and then England to be the father to many, many fast race horses. He created the fastest thoroughbreds to race at New Market. The story is about a little boy who loves him and takes care of him. I enjoyed this story.

Add a CommentIt was fun to re-read this classic that I read as a child. I still enjoyed the story very much. Agba and Sham go through so much bad things but stay strong.
It was really interesting once Sham and Agba get out of Morocco. (first few chapters). It's amazing how horse and boy manage to stay together. I liked it better than I thought I would.
In the style of the great horse classics like Black Beauty and The Black Stallion, Margeurite Henry once more writes a tale worthy of a read by any horse lover. Sham is a legendary stallion whose story is told with both compassion and passion by Henry. While some parts of the story might be a little hard for too young of an audience to hear, the novel ends happily.
An excellent story with a happy ending, all based on fact.
Seabiscuit and Man O War are descendants of this Arabian stallion.
Vocabulary is not dumbed down for young readers- it's a classic.
One of my favorite horse books when I was a kid and horse obsessed. I still love it. The writing is amazing and the whole story is beautiful. I highly suggest it for anyone, no matter the age.
Loved this book when I was young and horse-crazy. Marguerite Henry wrote so many books. Super stories!
This was my favorite horse book growing up.
I read this when I was young and read every horse book there was. Growing up with Thoroghbreds and Arabians was awesome. Neat to see the history of the breed. Enjoyed this book.
