Early 20th century camping and adventuring in Alaska with the Muries, an influential couple in the creation of the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge. There is a flavor of the "Little House" books here, in cheerful descriptions of Margaret Murie's early life in Fairbanks, Alaska, and her arduous trips with her husband into the Alaskan bush. She captures the beauty of a wild place and inspired me to look at maps and images of the area they traveled through.
The author captures the terrific strength it takes to travel into real wilderness, and also the overwhelming, visceral joy it brings. Plus a great marriage. So fun to journey with her over many years of her life.
