The book is steeped in the Jewish intellectual refugee culture of post holocaust NYC. His characters are larger than life, incredible personalities and the book speaks to the depths of the human condition. This makes me want to read more from this fascinating man, partly to find the clues of my heritage, but I also imagine it would appeal to anybody with a feeling for passion and wit.
