Book of folktales, urban tales, and songs of a scary nature. I read some to a six year old, and he loved them. There is a watered down version of the hook which was his favorite tale. The stories are not more than a few pages, most only two. So the stories are quite short. I plan to read the other two books. I am amazed they had enough material to make the Scary Tales movie, which I have not seen yet, if the other two books are as brief.

Scary stories to tell in the dark is an anthology horror book with many of the stories feasting on fears and disturbing scenarios. Now I must say this book is scary in it's own right but when you accompany the imagery on the book with the stories that are involved it becomes downright terrifying. I remember when I used to read these stories and I would think about it all day eventually losing some sleep at night. Though this book is rather terrifying Schwartz manages to put in moral lessons within every story which is definitely not something you would have expected to come from a horror book but it is amazing that he managed to do this, adding a greater effect to these short stories. I would definitely recommend this book to horror enthusiasts or people just looking for a quick fright because this book definitely delivers. 5/5 Stars.

Great stories!!!

I read this book when I was about 7, and I swear I didn't sleep normally until I was 15 or so.

Every so often if I'm alone in the house, out at night, etc., I'll remember stories from this book and get nervous.

Seriously, though. These are some of the best scary stories EVER.

Scary stories is a wonderful collection of tales to spook your friends.Some stories are what we use today like "the hook." Some of them you might not have heard of like "white wolf or" cold as clay." The stories in the book are very creative and interesting.Just like the illustrations. I could never think of stories like these. I should say that if you haven't read this book, you should.
