On a quiet fall evening in the small, peaceful town of Mill Valley, California, Dr. Miles Bennell discovered an insidious, horrifying plot. Silently, subtly, almost imperceptibly, alien life-forms were taking over the bodies and minds of his neighbors, his friends, his family, the woman he loved-- the world as he knew it.

First published in 1955, this classic thriller of the ultimate alien invasion and the triumph of the human spirit over an invisible enemy inspired three major motion pictures.

I agree with Matt and found this a quick read, simply written but with that pull that keeps you reading.
This would be a good read for the upcoming fall months to get you in that creeped out mood.
Nothing explicit it just creeps up on you.

With the obvious dated references in mind, the reader can still enjoy the great readability and tension building of Dr. Miles Bennell desperately fighting against alien life form pods that take over minds and bodies of citizens

Bizarre ending, but good. You'll find the 50's film was quite close to the book.

Dated (sexual politics seem quaint), but still readable and a classic that put an idea into the culture that has not waned in power at all. We still say "pod people," don't we?

Great Book. A little Dated in parts - Reference to type righter and that kind of stuff.
The book definitely inspired the Original 50s classic movie. Nothing like the 1978 version.

Amazingly readable, despite its age.
