This is a difficult subject made more difficult to read by having the story run from the end of life to birth. There are two protagonists, one who occupies the brain of another who is unaware that there is a running commentary going on about the life he is living in Germany before, during and after WWII. Dr Todd Friendly is a despicable character. I skipped to the end hoping to find some resolution as he reverted to youth but he remained despicable. I am certainly not the intended audience for this book.
