This book was enjoyable and I will continue to read all Lee Child's books. Well written and entertaining. Thank you, Mr. Child!
Child is always an entertaining, fast-paced read even if the McGuffin is straining credulity. So, apart from a few small plot holes, Reacher is able to save the day again.
Worst Reacher book ever, if you don't count the horrible short stories. I am a BIG Reacher fan, in fact my whole family is, but we all agree this one was phoned in by Lee Child. 1 star at the most and that is a reach.
Ok but nothing special, like watching someone playing chess. Lots of players moving around, looking for a needle in a field of haystacks. Of course Reacher finds it with a conclusion that strains disbelief.
Not like the Reacher books I used to like. This one is lousy.....gross actually. 0 stars
I am not a veteran, nor do I consider myself a military expert in any way. I merely enjoy the Jack Reacher books. That said, I must agree that this installment of the Jack Reacher series was somewhat lacking and there were thing that could have been left and the story would flowed just as well. I'm sorry to say that I was disappointed with this book.
This latest installment in the Jack Reacher series falls short of Child's usual fast-paced, intensely satisfying adventures for the ex-MP. There are some twists and surprises in the story starting with Jack still enlisted and working between Washington, DC and Europe, however, some important points don't ring true.
Maybe it's just me, but I felt Lee Child is just phoning it in with this book. Premise is ridiculous and it flatlines from there.
Jack Reacher is at his best in the school of crime a really good "Night School." There are only one or two incidents of violent crime and for the most part Reacher is at his Sherlock Holmes' best. He figures out sequence of events by reasoning. There are enough subplots to keep the reader turning pages.
Sounds like a lot of the readers did better than I did. I barely made it through the first chapters when I finally gave it up! But what I did read was a waste of my time
I think I would rather read the back of a cereal box than this peace of work; at least then I would eventually get a prize at the bottom of the box. I am still struggling with finishing the book; given to me by a friend who had bought and gave upon it before finishing it And giving it to me. I seriously think maybe someone else wrote this, maybe his brother who wants to be a writer himself.
Giving this one star due to a chapter mid-way through that included what I consider to be explicit, undesirable content describing a woman performing an act of beastiality in a bar in Hamburg, and a few other tasteless references. This subject matter was not necessary and deterred, in my opinion, from the storyline. Decided to return the book and not finish reading it. In general, the story started out boring, but did improve as it went along. Read other Jack Reecher books and found some to be interesting with more suspense and others were a waste of time, too wordy and a basic skip to the end or just skip the end completely. The movie adaptations of Reecher novels much better time spent if one likes action!
I have read all of Lee Child's books, and I waited anxiously for this book to be released. What a let down. Who is this guy anyway? For sure not Reacher. I really had to push myself to finish the book. C'mon Lee Child, give the movie business a rest and write a book!
Child needs an Army advisor from this era, just doesn't ring true. A very unpleasant view of Germany and the Germans.
My husband and I generally enjoy the Jack Reacher books but this one felt as if it were phoned in to fill a promised book a year. Not even close to the good ones. I like the Tom Cruise theory. I'll read the next one but not with the same level of anticipation as previously stirred up!
Long, tedious journey to an end that once reached elicits a yawn and an exhausted exhalation of relief from having to read these tortured pages.
Didn't mind it, tho I felt a tad confused with some of it. Story maybe should of not gone on so long
I'm on page 133 and am seriously considering skipping to the last chapter. Not a lot about this book is holding my interest. Agree that if this was my first Jack Reacher book, I wouldn't be reading a second.
I have read them all over the years, and I thought this was one of the best. Maybe I'm weird..... but I was never bored, it was extremely plausible, and of course utterly predictable but that's not really surprising is it? Very entertaining and interesting. Don't know what other people expected, but I say go read and make up your own mind. 5 stars from me!
I pretty much agree with the numerous negative reviews. Not one of Child's better novels-somewhat predictable, a little too wordy and sometimes boring. This was a letdown.
