The Whites is yet another example of Richard Price's (AKA Harry Brandt) extraordinarily wonderful writing. The plot is strong, the characters are vivid, the language is tough and measured...it is outstanding for its genre. It took me a…

Somewhat confusingly this is novelist Richard Price ("Clockers," "Lush Life") writing as Harry Brandt. I'm not sure the point of having a pen name if you tell everyone who have a pen name. Anyway, this is a tough, gritty cop thriller that…

Thought the characterizations were pretty good, however the prose was only average. Reasonably well plotted and worth reading if you are interested.

I was very disappointed, book failed to capture my imagination. "Whites" fell flat because: (1) Richard Price's sensibilities are stuck in the 90's; (2) story and characters are incomplete and vague; and (3) I couldn't tell if the book…

Price is a master and he's at the top of his game in The Whites. The characters are so distinctive and well drawn that reading the novel is like living and working with them. Several intersecting stories, as well, so readers are advised…

This is the crime novel to read. Strong drama, great characters. Rates right up there with his masterpiece,"Clockers". One of America's great crime novelist, better than James Ellroy, who I really like. Read it, won't be disappointed.

Excellent police procedural with lots of dark humor reminiscent of early Joseph Wambaugh LAPD novels. This involves the NYPD. Well written, good story, highly recommended.
