I have never made a movie, but I felt like I had after watching this. This movie shows so many of the challenges of being in the film industry. There’s this constant nagging feeling as you watch the story through the perspective of Guido.…

This is an Italian movie about a director, Guido, making a movie. In many ways Guido is the director Fellini himself. It is ranked as one of the greatest movies of all time, but it is not easy to follow as the scenes are not immediately…

This movie is a MASTERPIECE. Full stop. The cinematography and acting is fantastic. Do not hesitate to check this one out! Fellini has a lot of movies worth visiting for your consideration, but this one absolutely should be first!!!

Beautiful. Just the faces of the extras and the composition of each frame makes this film worthwhile. The previous commenters have already lavished well-deserved praise so I will only add one thing. After watching 8½, try watching Nine…

Torturous to sit through, because of the stream of consciousness throughout the film and my lack of sympathy for the protagonist, but compelling to reflect on and psychoanalyze, and if in good company to debate. I don't like the main…

This is a ludicrous sequence of non sequiturs; there is no point to it (and that's the point). Much of the cinematography is pretty good though.

One of the greatest films about film ever made, Federico Fellini's 8 1/2 (Otto e Mezzo) turns one man's artistic crisis into a grand epic of the cinema. Guido Anselmi (Marcello Mastroianni) is a director whose film-and life-is collapsing…

Rome eternal! This one never fades! Better now than ever. If you haven't treated yourself lately, indulge right now!

Marcello Mastroianni plays Guido Anselmi, a director whose new project is collapsing around him, along with his life. One of the greatest films about film ever made, Federico Fellini's 8½ turns one man's artistic crisis into a grand epic…

Now 50 years old, I'd say that Fellini's 8 1/2 is a movie that has definitely lived way past its prime. As I patiently sat and watched this excruciatingly over-long picture that seemed to contain one "filler" scene after another, I…

An insightful look into a film director's (likely Fellini's) world; full of pressures, decisions, insecurity, regret. The women he desires -- one for her brains, and one (at least) for her body; a dream girl, and a childhood memory of a…

If you're feeling jaded and that movies are just a lot of populist, commercial time wasters, watch this and remember that movies can be a pure and beautiful art form all their own. This is film making at its very best. A perfect film. It…

The 2009 musical 'Nine' was based upon the 1982 stage musical of the same name, which itself was based upon this famous 1963 film by Fellini. 8 1/2 was outrageous at the time for its tale of a husband philandering and young boys paying a…

I found this movie very amusing. There are some very impressive cinematic techniques for its time.

Fellini finds a way to depict life and human frailty in a near perfect film about film. Marcello Mastroianni is terrific as the director who no longer seems to recognize any line between his life and art. Beautifully photographed by Gianni…

I remember having to sneak into the International Cinema on Manor Rd and Yonge Street in Toronto to see this because it was restricted - and in those days... they were really 'strict' about us underage movie-lovers trying to get into…

I watched every Fellini movie as a young man. To see this one again reminds me of why I ever loved film in the first place. It got just about ever accolade the critics and press could possibly hand out. O ... M ... G! is this one of…

The best examination of what it's like to be in charge of an artistic endeavour ever created. It could be a play, it could be a movie, it could be a dance; whatever. Something that bears repeated viewing just to get all the material in…

A good foreign film that influenced directors like Wes Anderson, Spielberg, Gondry, and Selick. Beautifully shot and well written, 8 1/2 is the basis for the 2009 movie Nine, starring Daniel Day-Lewis.
